Sometimes we give books a break. And when we do? From culture to cocktails, here’s what we’ve been enjoying of late…

We’re Giving…

We’re Choosing LOVE. A website and real-life store in London’s Soho where you can buy presents for refugees.  From babygrows and nappies to cooking kits and search & rescue vests, you can support refugees with a gift of something that they really, really need. Choose Love funds the purchase, transport and distribution of items to 80 projects for refugees across countries including Greece, Syria, France and the UK.

We’re Sharing…

The latest Insta-brand to hit our radar? Løre Originals: a capsule collection of beautifully-designed haircare products from award-winning London hairdressers Taylor Taylor. There’s an overview of the brand over on sister site, Running in Heels – and trust us, the Legend dry hair mask treatment lives up to its name!

We’re Dancing To…

No caption or explanation needed for this really. Apart from: Turn. It. UP!

We’re Listening To…

Tina Brown’s memoirs might have been slated by RIH fave Hadley Freeman, but listening to the former Editor-in-Chief read The Vanity Fair Diaries as part of BBC’s Book of The Week is like a quick flick through a trashy magazine while you’re waiting at the dentist/hairdresser/doctor. With her almost-embarrassing name-dropping, non-stop parties and salacious intrigue, it’s certainly not highbrow, but it IS awfully fun. Sure, Brown’s diaries are endlessly gossipy – but as someone who reached the top of her industry aged under 30, there’s no doubting her savvy.

We’re Staying At…

Adare Manor. If the spectacular pictures are anything to go by, we’d very much like to book a room at Ireland’s most luxurious hotel. Recently re-opened after a seriously extensive renovation, the five-star property was originally one of the country’s most luxurious private homes: a ‘calendar house’ with 65 windows, 52 chimney stacks and seven pillars – not forgetting the four towers to represent each season. A fairytale castle with fantastic food and the first ever La Mer spa in the UK and Ireland, we’ll take your finest suite and breakfast in bed, please. If it’s good enough for The Telegraph

We’re Thinking About…

Good old Mark Manson – and this piece about The Disease of More. “I think many people see life in terms of linear growth and improvement. This is probably only true when you’re young.” All that self-improvement stuff? Forget it.

We’re Visiting…

The Serpentine Sackler Gallery for Rose Wylie: Quack Quack. Glorious, riotous, full of joy, 83-year-old Wylie’s passion is evident in every single canvas. She might have only got her big break in her 70’s, but Wylie’s bright, witty paintings are full of confidence and energy. A must-see.

We’re Wearing…

Silk pyjamas, what else?! We LOVE Asceno‘s prints and relaxed shapes – and these polka dot ones scream work/weekend, right? Team with slim black cigarette pants, sky-high heels and a slick of your favourite red lipstick for all those festive parties. Not to mention: the ONLY socially-acceptable way to wear PJs come Christmas Day…

We’re Drinking…

Mulled wine and hot buttered rum are all well and good, but this wintry take on gin is just delicious. Ginger, bay and clementine add lovely seasonal flavour – and you could even make bottles of these now for elegant Christmas gifts. Tonic, ice. done. And DON’T drink it before three days of infusing are up!

We’re Watching…

The AMAZING Cate Blanchett hitting it out of the ballpark YET AGAIN with Manifesto. 13 different characters. One incredible actress. Fascinating, clever, thoughtful, inspiring.
